Sports and Entertainment Journalist Brandon ‘Scoop B‘ Robinson recently had Sonic legend and a member of the 2016 Basketball Hall of Fame Class Spencer Haywood on Scoop B Radio. The two discussed a potential team coming back to the Emerald City. In 2013, a group headed up by Seattle based businessman Chris Hansen, along with current Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Baller, Eric Nordstrom and Peter Nordstrom from the Nordstrom family. Were in discussions to purchase the Sacramento from the Maloofs brothers and relocate them to Seattle.
Chris Hansen had purchased land in Seattle costing him 6.8 million dollars for the new arena in Seattle. Former Commissioner David Stern gave a former player and mayor of Sacramento Kevin Johnson the opportunity to find a group of investors to match the offer of 525 million from the group from Seattle. The arena would be funded by Ron Burkle, while 24 Hour Fitness founder Mark Mastrov would provide backing for franchise bid. Vivek Ranadivé had decided to join the mix to keep the team in Sacramento and later Paul E. Jacobs, CEO of Qualcomm. Eventually, NBA would hold a vote in which it was 22 to 8 to keep the Kings in Sacramento. Ultimately ending the Hansen groups goal of bringing a team to Seattle for the moment.
Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer decided to purchase the Los Angeles Clippers, as a result of its previous owner Donald Sterling was banned because he was recorded saying some racial comments in the direction of Magic Johnson other African American players to his ex-girlfriend V Stiviano in 2014. Sterling is currently banned for life following his previous Shelly Sterling sold the Clippers to Steve Ballmer.
“We didn’t protect our turf and allowed them to come in and steal our team, and they don’t have nothing to do with us. The Thunder personal can’t say my name or Gary Payton’s name or anything in Oklahoma they want to create this idea that they created that franchise but there was some thievery involved.” Click on the link below to hear the full interview with Hall of Famer Spencer Haywood and Scoop B Radio
