Tommy Flanagan Opens Up About His Unexpected Journey to “Power Book IV: Force”

The seasoned Scottish actor, Tommy Flanagan, has charmed audiences with his versatile performances across various film and television projects. Yet, one of the most surprising and unexpected turns in his career came when he joined the cast of “Power Book IV: Force.” This particular experience is even more intriguing because Flanagan had never met Joseph Sikora, his co-star in the series, before stepping onto the set.
Flanagan recently sat down for an exclusive interview, shedding light on the unusual circumstances that brought him to the world of “Power Book IV: Force.” “I didn’t know,” Flanagan began, “It was Courtney [Kemp] who called me up, along with the original showrunner, Robert Munic. It was just after Covid, just after it, around February 2021. They asked, ‘Do you want to be in Chicago, coming to the show?’ At my house at this point because it’s Covid. I thought about chilling at home, a little haircut, no employment, nothing. So, I’m just sitting there,” said Flanagan on The Crew Has It with Michael Rainey Jr. and Gianni Paolo.
Intrigued by the unexpected opportunity, Flanagan agreed to join the project, despite some hesitation. “Courtney’s like, ‘Will you keep the hair?'” Flanagan recalled with a chuckle. “And I said, ‘Yeah, sure.’ Which, I f***ing… I just regret it.” He added with a hint of humor, “Yeah, the hair’s a thing.”
Flanagan’s journey to Chicago was not just about a change in hairstyle. He was about to dive headfirst into a new project, a new city, and a new cast, including Joseph Sikora. “Then I just, uh, Chicago. The food’s… you know, and the cocktails get bigger and bigger and bigger,” Flanagan laughed, reflecting on his initial experiences in the Windy City. “I mean, I lost 30 pounds in between shows. No Chicago, apart from the heat, is a great town.”
The unexpected twists and turns of Flanagan’s journey to “Power Book IV: Force” serve as a testament to the unpredictable nature of the entertainment industry. Despite not knowing his co-star Joseph Sikora beforehand, the two actors have built a compelling on-screen dynamic that fans of the show have come to appreciate.
As Flanagan continues to captivate audiences with his performance in “Power Book IV: Force,” it’s evident that his journey from the comfort of home to the bustling streets of Chicago was a leap of faith that paid off. His willingness to embrace new challenges and immerse himself in unfamiliar territory is a testament to his dedication to his craft and his passion for storytelling.
In the acting world, surprises are part of the journey, and for Tommy Flanagan, each unexpected twist only adds to the rich tapestry of his career.
