Terrence Ross Suggests Mavericks Trade for Ja Morant in Bold Proposal
Terrence Ross, a former NBA player who played for teams such as Phoenix Suns and Orlando Magic, Anthony Davis, and Memphis Grizzlies player Ja Morant, has stirred controversy with his bold trade suggestion. Ross’s remarks respond to Howard Beck, an NBA insider, who recently reported that a league executive thinks Memphis may want to move on from Morant this summer.
“I’m constantly checking in with executives around the trade deadline about like, okay, what we saw, what we didn’t see, what’s next,” Beck shared. “In this league, you are always on the lookout for who’s the next wave of stars that are going to get dealt, right?… Somebody out of the blue said, keep an eye on Ja [Morant] this summer… I’m just saying it’s one of those things I’m just kind of keeping an eye on if they were to flame out early.”
Ross quickly commented on the rumor, suggesting that the Mavericks should capitalize on the situation and acquire Morant heavily. His trade idea? The talented point guard can be obtained by sending Anthony Davis and a first-round pick to Memphis for the Mavericks.
“To Dallas for Anthony Davis and a 1-round pick,” Ross commented in the League Alert Instagram comments.
Why the Mavericks Could Consider It
The Mavericks, led by Kyrie Irving, have been struggling to find steady success in the postseason despite their impressive backcourt. Adding Ja Morant, one of the most dynamic guards in the league, could elevate Dallas back into the conversation about championship contenders.
The combination of Morant’s ability to push the pace, finish at the rim, and create plays for teammates would be a perfect fit. Irving’s frequent switching between point and shooting guard roles would make it possible for the Mavericks to create one of the most explosive offensive trios in NBA history with Morant’s presence.
Would Memphis Move on from Morant?
The thought of Memphis trading Morant may seem improbable, but off-court controversies and injury worries have raised concerns about his long-term future with the team. Grizzlies have performed admirably without Morant, which suggests they might be willing to reshape their roster around Jaren Jackson Jr., Desmond Bane, and Marcus Smart. By acquiring Anthony Davis, Memphis would have a superior interior presence to complement Jackson, creating one of the most formidable defensive frontcourts in the NBA. Davis’ injury history adds another layer of complexity to the equation.
Could This Trade Actually Happen?
Ross’s proposal is intriguing, but there are obstacles to bringing this trade to fruition. Davis’s current contract with the Mavericks is for three years, and because of a player option, he can become a free agent the summer before the 2027-28 season.
Dallas would need to provide more than just a first-round pick to attract Memphis, given Morant’s superstar potential. The prospect of Ja Morant wearing a Mavericks jersey is enough to excite both fans and analysts. In the event that Memphis decides to explore trade options, Dallas along with other teams around the league will undoubtedly be closely monitoring the situation. The NBA offseason could be more intriguing if the Grizzlies flame out early in the playoffs, as Beck hinted, while it’s still just speculation.
