The first two episodes of Hulu’s Legacy: The True Story of The LA Lakers premiered on the platform. Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar says the documentary is the real deal.
“Everyone will watch [Legacy] and understand it’s the real deal, said Jabbar.
During the second episode, actor and Los Angeles Lakers fan Robb Lowe revealed that he was filming a film during the 1985 NBA Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics. That film was called “About Last Night,” featuring Demi Moore, Elizabeth Perkins, and Jim Belushi.
Lowe was banned from flying during the filming of the movie by TriStar Pictures to Boston for game six. Lowe would decided to go anyway by secretly hiring a seaplane to fly him to Boston.
“I hired a seaplane to secretly pick me up to fly to Boston & got in my seats just in time for tip off. Unfortunately they cut to me in the audience on the broadcast and the studio found out that I was there, and they were not happy.”
The Los Angeles Lakers would win their third NBA Championship six years after beating the Celtics in the six games.
The Captain Kareem Abdul-Jabbar would be named Finals MVP becoming the oldest player at the time to win the honor.
“He defied the critics,” said Riley. “He defies logic. He’s just incredible. He’s the most unique and durable athlete of our time.”
Lowe was later banned from traveling with the Lakers by Pat Riley.
“Pat Riley ended up barring me from going on the team plane and, really, barred me from staying in the team hotel … I mean, what a badge of honor to be banned by Pat Riley, come on,” Lowe said.
