Bobby Brackins is a jack of all trades. He is a recording artist, songwriter, and an entrepreneur who only makes hit records; “My Bro” featuring fellow Bay Artist, G-Eazy  just going platinum backs up that statement.  During a recent interview with RESPECT., Bobby Brackins talks about his mega hit  “I Hit It First,” which he wrote featuring Ray J. In addition, Bobby talks about when he decided to start writing music, and what he likes to do when he is not working. Read RESPECT.’s interview with Bobby below.

RESPECT.: When did you decide to start writing music?

I actually started writing songs in elementary school, in my journal. I would write down lyrics pertaining to basketball and other things kids enjoyed participating in at that age.  I did not start recording music until I entered high school. That was when “Ride or Die Chick” dropped on the radio. I saw a career in the music industry, as an avenue to travel and to see the world.

RESPECT.: Can you take us through the writing process of “I Hit It First?”

Ray J and I wanted to create something memorable, to be honest with you.  We wanted to make a party song for the ladies and fellas in the club. It didn’t take us much time to create that hit, she came over and laid down her vocals and the rest is history.

RESPECT.: When you are not working in the studio or on tour what do like to do in your free time?

I like to travel a lot in my free time when I’m not in the studio or on tour. In addition, I enjoy shopping, going out to dinner and catching a movie. I consider myself as a normal individual that loves to hang out with friends and family and chilling at the end of the day.

RESPECT.: Who are some of the artists from The Bay we should be on the lookout for?

Kamaiyah and the HBK Gang are definitely some of the artists that you should be on the lookout for from the Bay area. The fans have been showing G-Eazy love for the past year a half now, but before then he was being slept on. So, I’m happy to see him being recognized for his talent. Keep your eyes on “The Bay”, because we have some talented upcoming artists.

RESPECT.: With Kevin Durant in the fold this year for The Warriors, how many games do you think they will win this year?

They have already set the record for the most wins in a season. I think the real test is can they keep all of their players healthy, and not collapse in the finals again.

RESPECT.: What are your thoughts on some of these artists that are on major labels, but their material is not being pushed?

Just because you are signed does not mean that you can just sit there and not bring something to the table. You still have to figure out strategic ways to draw fans to your music platform to generate singles, albums, and merchandise sales.

RESPECT.: Who is somebody that you would love to work with that your fans would not expect?

Someone that I would love to work with that my fans would not expect is Banks. I have been following the material that she has been releasing and I would love to collaborate at some point in our careers.

RESPECT.: Can you tell us where your fans can purchase items from your clothing line?

Right now we are currently getting things ready for my clothing line to drop probably in the fall. It will be exclusively online and in some selected locations. So, stay tuned for more details.

RESPECT.: Have you thought about trying your creativity  possibility in the film industry?

I really enjoy sitting and  watching great movies. If the opportunity presented itself  I would definitely pursue it.

RESPECT.: Is there anyone you would like to work on that side of the entertainment industry ?

There is a lot of great people I would love to work with. Quentin Tarantino is one of my favorite directors. In addition, I am a fan of Natalie Portman, Kevin Spacey, Rosario Dawson, and Spike Lee’s older films.

RESPECT. :You just dropped your new video “Joy Ride” featuring Austin Mahone can you tell us about it ?

This is definitely another chart topper. When I write music I really like to show my creativity and I enjoyed working with Austin Mahone, he is a talented artist.

RESPECT.: What is some advice you would give upcoming artists and producers looking to make a name for themselves ?

You have to be genuine and make sure you are doing this for the right reasons. You also have to network, that is something I would say is a must in this business and you have to build a solid team.
