Raising Kanan’s Mekai Curtis Says Kanan Will Evolve In Season Two & A Lot Of Secrets Will Be Revealed

At the end of the first season of Raising Kanan, Raquel Thomas asked her son Kanan Stark to take out her enemy Malcolm Howard by shooting him in the park.
Miller has spoken openly about how thrilled she is to play the role of the Raq. However, even she was shocked by a scene in the first season.
“I remember the ninth episode where Raq goes to teach Kanan how to kill his dad,” she told Vanity Fair. “For me as a person, when I read it, I was so upset with her. Because I had been riding with her the entire time. And then to see that on the page, I immediately called [Raising Kanan creator] Sascha [Penn] and was like, ‘They’re going to hate me! Oh my God!’ And then he presented a great argument, which is, ‘Raq is doing what she needs to do for the family. She believes it.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, you’re right! She does believe it!’ Raquel knows that some of the things that she’s doing might not be right but it’s about her continuing to sort an inner dialog with herself is like ‘keep it together, keep it together.”
Mekai Curtis who plays Kanan in Raising Kanan was recently on New York Live TV. During his appearance Curtis shared, that there’s been a little bit of a time jump [three months] and thing has mellowed out since the event of the season finale in season one.
“Kanan is getting folded back into everything his mom [Raq] has been building during the time she sent him away. A lot of self-reflection during that time, and now he comes back and sees what was so exciting before in a different way now. A little more terrifying and scary,” said Curtis.
Curtis added, “He’s absolutely evolving; that is his arc through the second season is this evolution of him coming more into himself.
What can we expect for the rest of the season?
“Just a lot of secrets revealed. A lot of tension and things built up in the first season. That kind of come to a head this year. A lot of self-reflection that Kanan goes through and gets answers to that lead to more questions” shared the Younger Kanan actor.
Speaking of secrets, Kanan can be seen in the car with Detective Howard in the previews for episode three of season two. After Howard talked to his mother Raq and told her he would share that he was his father the next time he saw Kanan. So, it is safe to say that is revealed during that conversation between the two.
“What I am about to tell you is going to be the craziest thing that you ever heard,” said Howard.
Make sure you catch Raising Kanan on Sunday nights on at 8 pm EST on Starz.
