After years apart, Lost & Profound’s Lisa and Terry are back together both as a couple and as a creative team, and with it comes a poignant new single, “Mute.” It’s a soulful track about reconnection and rekindling, a powerful gesture of renewal, marking the end of a prolonged silence that stretches back to 2015. The path of Lost & Profound has never been clear. Once the sisters settled back in New Brunswick together, Lisa and Terry experienced some difficult personal and creative turmoil, which tore their songwriting apart. Both continued as solo artists, but for a long time, the magic of Lost & Profound’s chemistry seemed to be lost.

Now with “Mute,” they’ve ignited that spark, revealing a sound that’s as vivid and diverse as their devoted fan base. The song is an indie-folk-rock gem, mixing raw emotion with widescreen, anthemic energy. Lisa and Terry’s breathy voices float between lush instrumentation, expressing renewed confidence and a bittersweet sentiment of discovering one another, as well as their music. The storytelling is intimate yet universal, inviting listeners into the complex and beautiful space where art and life intersect. Also contributing to the polish and depth is Toronto’s multi-award-winning Jason Dufour, with his deft mixing touch on “Mute”. His touch makes it sound both modern and timeless, and it complements the organic sound of the duo remarkably.

Even more unique than the lineup is the production itself, executed by none other than Lisa and Terry’s son, Jody Tompkins, a world-renowned composer & engineer, who adds a new perspective while respecting the core of Lost & Profound’s sound. “Mute” is a promise that there’s more music to come from this much-loved band, coming to reclaim their spotlight with all the heartfelt honesty and adventurous spirit that they ever possessed. For veterans of the collector’s world and new fans alike, the single is a reminder that sometimes, the most powerful stories are those born of silence and the courage to break it.
