Suns guard Jamal Crawford finished the 2018-19 by dropping 51 points against the Dallas Mavericks, allowing him to take some headlines away from Dirk Nowitzki, who decided to hang it up after 21 seasons in the Dallas and the NBA. After a performance of 51 points, five rebounds, and five assists, you would think that player would be a signed by a team heading into training camp. However, surprising Jamal Crawford is not on an NBA roster.

“I’m sorry we didn’t get the win, but obviously it was Dirk’s night tonight,” Crawford said. “So you don’t feel all the way bad. It was not about me at all, and it was about my teammates and coaches; I just have to do my part.”

The 20 year veteran out of the University of Michigan is entering his 20 seasons in the NBA. During his career, Crawford has averaged 14.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. Last season, for the Suns Crawford, averaged 7.9 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game.

Former All-Star guard Gilbert Arenas also surprised that Crawford is not signed and feels the Lakers could use his skill set.

I am surprised at this point in his career. I hope he goes to a team like the Lakers because they need your outside shooting. They also need your creativity to provide more baskets, and they need another guard. I feel Jamal Crawford in that type of situation would be great for both sides.

The Los Angeles Lakers have one guaranteed spot left heading into August, but since the news that DeMarcus Cousins tore his ACL has the Lakers looking at other options such as former center Dwight Howard. Recently Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that Howard had been bought out by the Grizzlies and sign with the Lakers once he clears waivers.

The Lakers can also sign Jamal Crawford by applying a medical expectation due to Cousins being out with an ACL injury. Last season as a member of the Suns, he signed a one-year deal worth just $2.4 million. As a member of the Lakers’ second unit, Crawford could help mentor young players coming off the bench. Crawford will also provide scoring off the bench for Lakers that would help them down the stretch close out games.
