I Think Becky Hammon Deserves To Be The First Female Head Coach In The NBA, Says Jenny Boucek

This past summer the Milwaukee Bucks were in search of a new head coach after letting newly inducted Hall of Famer Jason Kidd go. The Bucks would ultimately decide to hire Mike Budenholzer, but before they made their decision. They announced that Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon was among the candidates they would be bringing in for interviews, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Milwaukee Bucks plan to interview San Antonio Spurs assistant Becky Hammon for the franchise’s head coaching job, league sources tell ESPN. Hammon is the NBA’s first female assistant coach — and now will be the first to interview to be a head coach.

The San Antonio Spurs would make history in 2014 when they hired Hammon as the first female full-time assistant in the NBA.
During her time in the WNBA, Hammon was a six-time WNBA All-Star, and she made history in 2015, by becoming the first female coach of an NBA Summer League team as she guided the Spurs to a Summer League Championship.
Hammon was one of fourth Spurs assistant coaches that interviewed for a head coaching position.
Hammon is in an exclusive club being that she is one of five full-time female coaches in the NBA the others are Jenny Boucek (Dallas Mavericks), Nancy Lieberman (Sacramento Kings), Kristi Toliver (Washington Wizards), and Natalie Nakase (Los Angeles Clippers). Sue Bird was recently hired as a Basketball Operations Associate with the Denver Nuggets.
Recently, I spoke with Mavericks assistant coach Jenny Boucek and asked her If she thought Hammon should be the first female coach in the NBA?
“I think Becky Hammon should be the first female coach in the NBA. She has been groomed for it, and she really wants to do it. Becky proved that she could in the summer league, and I know that is just a taste, but she’s got what it takes. So, I think she would be a real asset in leading a team,” said Boucek.
The San Antonio Spurs and Mavericks are already halfway done with their four-game Southwest division series, as the Spurs lead the series 2-0. The Spurs are currently sixth in the Western Conference Standings with a record of 30-22 record, as the Mavericks they are the 13th spot with a 22- 27 record. The two teams will face each other again on March 12th in Dallas at the American Airlines Center.
