Ghost’s Golden ‘Janet’ Brooks on Favorite Mary J. Blige Song and Working Together on Power Book II

Golden Brooks, known for her roles in Girlfriends and Hart of Dixie, recently discussed how much she respects R&B legend Mary J. Blige and the memorable time I spent working with her on Power Book II: Ghost Season Four.
Brooks struggled to pick a single song when asked about her favorite Mary J. Blige song.
“Oh man, asking me what my favorite Mary J. Blige song is like asking who’s your favorite child—there’s just so many,” Brooks said to BlackTreeTV, reflecting on Blige’s vast catalog of hits. She pointed out that Blige’s latest song is “beautiful and soulful,” adding, “Mary’s one of my favorite artists.”
Brooks admires Blige more than just her music; she also likes her growing acting career, which includes playing Monet Tejada, a powerful matriarch in Power Book II: Ghost. Brooks, who collaborated with Blige in the upcoming season, discussed the excitement and honor of working with one of her idols.
“Working with her in the acting space was exactly what I imagined,” Brooks shared. “I could feel her spirit in her music, and I knew that’s how she would approach her roles.” Brooks praised Blige’s acting talent, expressing her belief that Blige is only beginning to tap into her full potential as an actress. “She’s at the beginning of a journey that will bring award after award.”
Blige was compared to other multi-talented stars in Brooks’ comparison of her ability to transcend music and acting.
“She’s up there with Cher, Barbra Streisand, and Lady Gaga in her ability to excel in both creative spaces,” Brooks said.
She thought seeing Blige embody her character was like ‘watching a master class’ and commented on how connected Blige was to her role as Monet Tejada.
