The Friday film franchise fans have been anticipating an update on the long-rumored final installment for quite some time.

In a recent interview with Nick Hamilton of NitecastMedia, legendary comedian and actor Chris Tucker addressed the speculation surrounding his possible return.
Hamilton inquired about Tucker’s interest in reprising his iconic role as Smokey for a possible final Friday film, assuming all the right elements were in place during their conversation. Tucker, who is famous for his quick wit and undeniable attraction to Ice Cube, gave an answer that left the door slightly open but far from confirmed.

“I don’t know, I don’t know. Everything has to line up right,” Tucker said. “I did it, and it was done. But you know, I’d love to do something else with Cube. So we’ll see, man. You never know what’ll happen.”

Hamilton advanced the conversation by suggesting a project incorporating Tucker, Ice Cube, and Mike Epps, a combination that fans have long desired. Tucker’s response? He acknowledged the request, declaring, “We’re listening to y’all, man. We’re going to listen to y’all. We’ll see what happens.”

Will Chris Tucker Return as Smokey?

Tucker’s response, despite being noncommittal, remains hopeful for fans that he could reunite with Cube in some way. While the Rush Hour star has left the franchise over the years, Ice Cube has repeatedly expressed his desire to complete the Friday series with a final installment. Tucker’s hilarious portrayal of Smokey, a wisecracking, weed-smoking character who became one of the most loved figures in comedy cinema, has made Friday (1995) a popular cult classic. Tucker chose not to return for the sequels (Next Friday and Friday After Next), citing creative differences and a desire to pursue a different career path.

The Legacy of Friday and the Demand for a Final Chapter

Ice Cube has been attempting for years to bring a fourth Friday movie, rumored to be titled Last Friday, to life. Warner Bros. disputes and numerous roadblocks have hindered the project. John Witherspoon (Pops) and Tommy “Tiny” Lister Jr., two franchise icons, have passed away. Many fans believe the final film will be a tribute to the actors who made Friday unforgettable. Tucker’s willingness to collaborate with Ice Cube again has caused fresh discussions among fans, regardless of whether he officially returns as Smokey. Tucker, Cube, and Epps together on the screen would be a hit at the box office, and there is still a strong demand for a final Friday. For now, fans must wait and see if everything ‘lines up right’ for Tucker to return to the Friday universe.
