Cameron Brink, a rookie for the Los Angeles Sparks, has already had many memorable moments during her young WNBA career.
Brink’s Kendrick vs. Drake Moment Goes Viral
In an interview with Complex before the 2024 WNBA Draft, Brink was asked the classic hip-hop question: Kendrick Lamar or Drake?
“When the draft was going on, we were doing questions on the orange carpet,” Brink recalled. “The question was: Kendrick or Drake? And everyone chose Drake, and I was the only one that chose Kendrick.”
Even though it seemed like a small decision, it had a significant impact. According to Brink, Lamar allegedly witnessed the clip and took note.
An Unexpected Encounter at a USC Game
During the USC vs. Notre Dame women’s basketball game, Brink was approached by someone who claimed to have immediate connections with the Pulitzer Prize-winning artist.
“A guy came up to me with his super cute daughter,” Brink shared on her podcast. “He was like, ‘I work with Kendrick, and he noticed that you were the only person who said him.’ And he f***s with you. He says, ‘You’re LA.’”
Brink, originally from Oregon but now playing in Los Angeles, was stunned by the moment. “I was like, ‘Really!?’ I was like, ‘I love you, Kendrick.’”
Brink enthusiastically agreed to filming a message for Lamar after the man suggested it.
“So then he was like, ‘I’ll take a video and I’ll send it to him.’ And in the video … I was like, ‘I love you, Kendrick!’” she recalled with a laugh.
Despite some playful skepticism—”Maybe he was lying, I don’t know”—Brink still considers the moment one of the best of her life. “I think he knows who I am, and that was a highlight of my life.”
Brink Reflects on WNBA Pay and Gratitude

She acknowledged that more financial growth for WNBA players would be welcomed. “It would be nice,” She mentioned the possibility of salary increases.
