Breanna Stewart Responds to Mavs’ Jenny Boucek’s High Praise ‘Appreciate Her Nice Remarks’

The Seattle Storm are gearing up to face the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday night in the WNBA bubble Bradenton, Fla. The Storm are coming off a 87-71 victory over the New York Liberty, which featured the debut of the 2020 number one pick Sabrina Ionescu. It also featured the return of both Sue Bird [knee injury] and Breanna Stewart [Torn Achilles Tendon], who both sat out last season due to injury.
Stewart led the Storm to victory has she tallied 18 points, eight rebounds, and four steals, while Sue Bird poured in 11 points, grabbing two rebounds, and dishing out five assists. As for Ionescu, she had 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists in her WNBA debut.
Former Storm head coach, Jenny Boucek, who is now an assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks recently talked about Stewart return to the league this season.
“Stewie is still young, but she is now entering that conversation along the lines of Lauren Jackson. Where if she is healthy and on the floor, your team has a chance to win a championship. That’s how good she is and so, they get her back healthy, which it sounds like she is and I know she has been extremely dedicated to top-notch rehab and sport science. I know the woman that she has been working with, so I know she has had the very best care,” said Boucek.
Boucek believes that Stewart will comeback better than ever.
“So, there is no doubt in my mind she will be better than ever because sometimes things like that can make you better. Because you appreciate the game more and you get a mental break, which she hasn’t had. And you just have even more fire and competitiveness, and appreciation. That can make you even better and she was already the best player i n the world. They are going to the team to beat in my opinion.”
After the Storm shootaround this afternoon, Breanna Stewart responded to Boucek’s praise.
“I appreciate the nice remarks from Jenny [Boucek] for sure. I will always remember her as my first coach in the league and I’m happy to be back,” said Stewart. Happy to continue to kind of make my mark in this league and make the best career possible that I can.”
The Storm and Lynx tip off at 10 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network and JOEtv.
