Jamel Crawford is a 19 year veteran out the University of Michigan and he just opted out of his $4.5 million dollar player’s option with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Making him an unrestricted free agent heading into the 2018- 2019 season coming up. Earlier this summer Crawford was a guest on the Scoop B Radio Podcast and the Seattle native discussed possibly joining the upstart Philadelphia 76ers. The 76ers feature a young core of players such as Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, and Markelle Fultz.
Crawford Told Brandon ” Scoop B” Robinson, that he has been working with Fultz all summer long. “We played together all summer when he was at the University of Washington,” said Crawford. He would continue “I was so happy for him personally because so many people were throwing jabs at him, with being injured and the shot and all that, but I have no doubt he’s going to be a star one day. His talent is God-given, and obviously, he’s developed that talent, but he loves the game of basketball. He wants to be better, he wants to be great, and he’s putting the work in, so I’m just happy for his success. And not just this year, but going long-term, he’s a brother of mine and I’d be there for him every step of the way.”
Crawford also had praise for the NBA’s current Rookie of the Year Ben Simmons as well, “You can tell, watching him play, he doesn’t play with an agenda,” he said. “You know, a lot of young guys try to establish themselves first. It looks like he’s just trying to win, whatever that is. He may get you 25 points, he may get you 10 assists, he may even get 18 rebounds. It’s just about winning that particular game. I love how he plays the game. He’s very cerebral, always looking for his teammates and looking for the advantage down the court, so that’s what I love about him.”
Earlier tonight at the 2K launch party for NBA 2k19 Robinson was able to catch with Simmons to discuss the possibility of playing with Crawford next season. Simmons stated that Crawford “needs to come through,” giving his stamp of approval of the veterans comments from earlier this summer, “I would be honored to play there.”
Crawford now has Simmons approval to join the 76ers now it’s up to the front office to make an offer. He would be a great addition to the Sixers second unit in his patent sixth man role an award he has won three times.
When asked about the state of Jamal Crawford coming to the Philadelphia 76ers, Ben Simmons just told me: “He Needs to come through”
