Dulcy Mendjiadeu: The Rising Star Drafted by the Seattle Storm in the 2023 WNBA Draft

On April 10th, 2023, the Seattle Storm selected forward Dulcy Mendjiadeu with the 21st pick in the second round of the WNBA draft. The former University of South Florida forward had an impressive college career, and now she is ready to take her skills to the professional level.

“I am feeling overwhelmed right now and it hasn’t dawned on me yet but I feel good,” said Fankam Mendjiadeu. “All the hard work starts now. I am really grateful for the opportunity but I know that everything starts now. I have to go and fight and battle and earn my place.”

Mendjiadeu, a native of Cameroon, started playing basketball at the age of 12. She quickly became a standout player and caught the attention of coaches in the United States. In 2019, she moved to Florida to play for the University of South Florida Bulls. During her time there, Mendjiadeu showed why she was one of the best guards in the country.

In her senior year, Mendjiadeu led the Bulls in scoring, averaging 17.4 points per game. She also recorded 4.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. Her outstanding performance on the court earned her All-AAC First Team honors and a spot on the All-AAC Tournament team.

The Storm has a strong history of developing young talent, and Mendjiadeu will have the chance to learn from some of the best players in the WNBA.
