Dennis “D.J.” Hernandez, brother of the late Aaron Hernandez, was arrested on March 23 after allegedly throwing a brick at ESPN’s headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut.

According to police documents obtained by TMZ, Hernandez showed up at ESPN’s campus in an Uber and attempted to gain entry, but was denied access by security personnel. He then threw a brick at the building with a threatening note attached, which was signed “Yours truly, Dennis J. Hernandez.”

“To all media outlets. It’s about time you all realeyes the affect media has on all family members. Since you’re a world wide leader maybe you could lead how media and messages are delivered brick by brick. Clean it up!”

The Hernandez family is from Bristol, the same town where ESPN’s headquarters is located. Aaron Hernandez, D.J.’s brother, was a former star tight end for the New England Patriots who was convicted of murder in 2015 and died by suicide in prison in 2017.

D.J. Hernandez’s motives for the attack are not yet clear, but his behavior is reminiscent of the troubled past of his brother. Prior to his conviction for murder, Aaron Hernandez had signed a lucrative contract with the Patriots worth $40 million. However, his promising career came to a sudden end when he was arrested for the murder of Odin Lloyd in 2013. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

In 2017, Aaron Hernandez was found dead in his cell at Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Massachusetts. His death was ruled a suicide by hanging. Just five days prior to his death, Hernandez had been acquitted of charges related to the 2012 double-murder of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado.

D.J. Hernandez’s actions have caused concern for those close to the Hernandez family. Aaron Hernandez’s fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, and their daughter, Avielle, have already suffered enough from the fallout of Aaron’s legal troubles and subsequent death. D.J.’s arrest will only serve to further tarnish the Hernandez family name and bring back painful memories of Aaron’s troubled past.
