Hardaway Jr. underwent surgery last season on February 1 to repair a break in his fifth metatarsal bone on his left foot, which forced him out for the rest of the regular season and postseason.
“But all I can say is I’m excited and very happy to be able to go out and compete ,” he said Monday during Mavericks media day.
“Just hearing what the coaches are talking about on the sidelines and where their mindsets are going for each and every game, after the game,” Hardaway said. ” … I think it helped me out tremendously knowing what they need me to do in order for me to go out there and succeed and help the team.”
Speaking of Hardaway Jr, If you are lucky to get to Mavs home games or on the road early, during his pregame routine, you will see him working out with Mavericks assistant coach God Shammgod.
Shammgod recently spoke with LandonBuford.com about some of things he worked with Hardaway Jr during his recovery process.
“Just working on him attacking the basket more, getting to the rim because he can get the rim, and finish,” said Shammgod.
“Also, just being patient and going with the flow, being a part of the team, he is a great teammate. Not trying to rush things knowing that his game would come back around or will be even better moving forward.”
Hardaway Jr. has been able to throw down some memorable dunk against the Toronto Raptors, and Portland Trailblazers this season.
This season for the Mavericks he is averaging 13.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assist per game in 43 games this season.
The Dallas Mavericks will take on the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 pm CST at the American Airlines Center. The Mavs are looking to get their 26th win on the season, while the Clippers are looking to get their 25th.
