Rapper Tory Lanez was found guilty Friday on all counts in his Los Angeles trial for shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, could be sentenced to 22 years in prison and deportation back to Canada.

The jury convicted Lanez, 30, for discharging a firearm through gross negligence, assaulting a semi-automatic firearm and carrying an unregistered loaded firearm in a vehicle.

“The jury got it right,” Megan Thee Stallion’s attorney, Alex Spiro, told CBS News in a statement. “I am thankful there is justice for Meg.”

Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, said Lanez fired at her five times after a party in the Hollywood Hills on July 12, 2020. She told the court that the shooting was preceded by a dispute between Megan and Lanez that ignited, especially when they started to mutually attack the musical career.

She got out of the vehicle and tried to get away when Lanez leaned down and opened fire, leaving the rear of her feet injured. At one point, he yelled “Dance, b—-!” she she shared.

In a declaration issued immediately after the verdict was read, L.A. Prosecutor George Gascón commended the “bravery” of Megan Thee Stallion, saying that she.

“I want to start by highlighting the bravery of Megan Pete,” District Attorney Gascón said. “You showed incredible courage and vulnerability with your testimony despite repeated and grotesque attacks that you did not deserve. You faced unjust and despicable scrutiny that no woman should ever face and you have been an inspiration to others across LA County and the nation, said Gascón.

“Women, especially Black women, are afraid to report crimes like assault and sexual violence because they are too often not believed. This trial, for the second time this month, highlighted the numerous ways that our society must do better for women.

I’d also like to thank the jurors for their time and thoughtful deliberation, and our trial team for their tireless pursuit of the truth. You spent countless hours away from your families during the holiday season preparing this case and finding justice for Ms. Pete. Your sacrifice is appreciated.”

After verdict was read Lanez’s father and stepmother were protesting outside the courthouse, according to Meghann Cuniff.

“A crazy and downright scary scene in the courtroom as his father and stepmother screamed about wicked injustice,” Cuniff tweeted. “Tory Lanez’s father stood up guest and screamed. ‘This is a wicked system!’ He screamed at the prosecutors that they are evil and they know exactly what they did here. His stepmother stood up screaming and yelling. Father was yelling about ‘Roc Nation.'”

“In the name of Jesus!”

Per Cuniff, one women had some choice words for Jay Z.
