In a 5-4 judgment earlier this year, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, which established the constitutional right to abortion in the United States in 1973, according to CNBC.
The controversial yet awaited court ruling gives individual states the power to establish their own abortion laws without worrying about running away from Roe, who allowed abortions in the first two trimesters of pregnancy.
Nearly half of the states were expected to ban or severely restrict abortion following the Supreme Court ruling, which is linked to a very restrictive new abortion legislation in Mississippi. The laws will affect tens of millions of people across the country, who may have to cross state borders to receive reproductive health care.
