Prior to today Adidas were under extreme pressure to sever ties with Ye and the “Yeezy” brand partnership, after the rapper and designer Kanye West made anti-Semitic remarks. Including the t-shirt line “White Live Matter” he dropped earlier this month!
Ye has been facing fallouts in different industries from comments over the past few weeks targeting Jewish people, including a tweet that resulted in Twitter suspending his account. Sports gear mega brand Adidas has only partnered with athletes in the past. Kanye was the first non-athlete partnership which helped him reach his billionaire net worth status. The Yeezy brand accumulated for 60% of Adidas online sales.
According to a virtual room hosted by AAYANX in his club “AAYAN Fix My Life” on the clubhouse all. Several fans made remarks in concerned about his children suffering from Ye recent antisemitism comments. They also expressed doubt about his mental health and the supporting cast around him.
In a recent interview with the Boston Globe high profile athlete Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics said he will not be separating from Kanye West’s Donda Sports agency due to Ye’s controversial anti-Semitic statements. “I don’t condone any hurt, harm, or danger toward a group of people,” Brown told the Globe. “I will continue to be a member of my community, uplift my community through my work and what I’ve done throughout my career, and I’m going to continue to do that work.”
He also made remarks suggesting Kanye needs unconditional love to help him through this tough situation.
Since then both Brown and Donald have announced that are partying ways with the Donda Sports Agency.
Donald released a statement on Tuesday saying4, “The recent comments and displays of hate and anti-Semitism are the exact opposite of how we choose to live our lives and raise our children. We find them to be irresponsible and go against everything we believe in as a family.”
He added “As parents and members of society, we felt a responsibility to send a clear message that hateful words and actions have consequences and that we must do better as human beings. We do not feel our beliefs, voices and actions belong anywhere near a space that misrepresents and oppresses people of any background, ethnicity or race.”
As for Brown, “And in this, I seek to be as clear as possible. I always have, and will always, continue to stand strongly against anti-Semitism, hate speech, misrepresentation, and oppressive rhetoric of any kind.”
He continued “In light of that, after sharing in conversations, I now recognize that there are times when my voice and my position can’t coexist in spaces that don’t correspond with my stance or my values. And for that, I am terminating my association with Donda Sports.”
