Jay-Z wants to know how much money his famous line of cognac makes, and he filed a complaint against his associates at Bacardi to obtain this information.
In the documents obtained by TMZ Hip Hop, Jay-Z’s company, SC Liquor, asks Bacardi for total financial clarity.
With regard to D’Usse, the high-end cognac brand in which Jay and Bacardi partner 50/50.
Jay and the alcohol giant have been joint owners of D’Usse since 2011. He regularly promotes the brand in his songs, and even drinks one of his Grammys once to promote it.
However, the trial makes it clear that the partnership, formally called D’Usse LLC, is not working well.
In the docs, Jay-Z’s co. says he needs all books and records, the location of all warehouses storing D’Usse barrels, bottles, and accessories, as well as all information about Bacardi’s physical inventory and its inventory process.
We don’t know what’s driving Jay to ask for this info, but there’s mistrust between the partners. A doctor’s phrase seems pretty telling: SC Liquor says it must “monitor the conduct of [Bacardi’s] business to protect SC’s rights as” one partner in the business.
