During its fashion show in Paris on Monday, Kanye “Ye” West wore a shirt with the expression “White Lives Matter” on the back. He was accompanied by Conservative commentator Candace Owens in the same white shirt.

The artist previously known as Kanye West wore the shirt during a fashion show for his brand YZY. Complex reported that the models also wore the “White Lives Matter” shirts during the show.

The expression “White Lives Matter” came up as “a racist response to the Black Lives Matter movement” in 2015, and was adopted and promoted by white supremacist and sympathetic groups, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

Not only did West and Owens support White Lives Matter, but they also criticized the Black Lives Matter movement. After the show on Monday, Owens posted pictures of her outfit on his Instagram story. A post appeared to be a screenshot of a story from West’s account, which read: “Everyone knows that Black Lives Matter was a scam now, it’s over, you’re welcome.” The story is no longer on West’s account.

When Boosie caught wind of why Kanye West was trending he tweeted, “DAM kanyewest U JUST GOING TO KEEP USING YOUR PLATFORM TO SH*T ON YOUR OWN RACE LIKE THIS W THIS SAD !!N the black people who still support you r even sadder!! LAST TIME SPEAKING ON #Kanyewestdoesntlikeblackpeople DO US A FAVOR N BLEACH YOUR SKIN ALL WHITE !! Thanks.”

He added, “the “Wipe Me Down” rapper uploaded a photo of Kanye West with fair skin and added the instruction, “Just do it!!”

Bossie was not the only one to criticize West. TMZ’s former producer, Van Lathan, went on Instagram to express his dismay over the shirt.

He posted a picture with a picture of Ye wearing the shirt, as Lathan simply subtitled “you all.”

Former professional basketball player, Jack Paul McClinton III replied in the comment section, asking, “do white lives not matter?”

Lathan would answer him stating, “we don’t need a reminder of the worth of white lives. America is a shrine to the worth of white people. This message is reactionary to a message affirming Black lives, which have never been worth anything in America. In its intent, it’s a white supremacist notion, because it posits that we can’t have a conversation about the worth of Black people without having a conversation about the worth of white people, which is f*cking insane. The notion that it always has to be about white people in America is incredibly frustrating, emotionally draining, and the whole problem. But here’s Kanye, apparently centering that notion.”

Lathan also released Ye in 2018, when he appeared on TMZ before his eighth studio album, Ye. At that time, he made it very clear that he supported Donald Trump and that the enslaved people had chosen a life of slavery.

“When you hear about slavery for 400 years. For 400 years? That sounds like a choice,” Ye said. “Like, you was there for 400 years and it was all of y’all?”

Jaden Smith was also not a fan of Ye’s shirt. Smith went on Twitter to tweet, “Black Lives Matter” and “True Leaders Lead.” He added, “I Don’t Care Who’s It Is If I Don’t Feel The Message I’m Out.”

However, someone that came to Ye’s defense was Wack 100. Wack took to IG and posted an image of Ye holding a notepad that reads, “The same people mad at me for wearing a white lives matter shirt idolized my white wife and made her whole family rich.” Wack captioned the photo with Kanye West speaks his truth.

Wack also jumped in Hollywood Unlocked’s comment sections to say “All Lives Matter.”
