Lakers forward James sent a sincere message to Serena Williams following the final match of her brilliant tennis career.
Williams, who turned 41 years later this month, dropped out of the US Open in the third round – having confirmed before the tournament that it would be her last.
She produced a show for ages to knock down No two seed Anett Kontaveit in the second round, but her tie against Australian Ajla Tomljanovic proved to be one step too close as she lost 7-5 6-7 (4-7) 6-1.
The curtain is now closing on the career of one of the greatest gamblers of all time. Williams won 23 Grand Slam titles and spent 319 weeks as world #1, including a joint record of 186 consecutive weeks between 2013 and 2016.
