Last month, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James revealed that he would like to own the NBA franchise in Vegas. James was on his show on HBO ‘The Shop’ dropped the news.

“I want to own a team,” James said. “I want to buy a team for sure. I want a team in Vegas. I want the team in Vegas.”

There is currently no NBA team in Las Vegas, and the two options would be an expansion or team relocation. According to John Canzano, NBA Governors are more fans of expansion fee than relocation fees.

“A sitting team president of an NBA franchise told me it’s unlikely that the league’s owners would allow the Trail Blazers to relocate to Seattle after a potential sale. ‘That’s a no-go,’ he said. The prevailing sentiment is that Seattle and Las Vegas have already been unofficially earmarked for NBA expansion and the current owners would prefer to avoid cannibalizing what would be a windfall of $6 billion in combined expansion fees.”

Speaking of Vegas, Mark Cuban was a guest on the Full Send Podcast and was ask how would the future Vegas team perform in the city.

“It crashes if NHL does well,” said Cuban.

“If they just play the Lakers and Clippers everybody will just come down from LA and just tear it up. But yeah they’ll do great here.”

However, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver last shared the NBA doesn’t have any plans to expand anytime soon.

“We are not discussing that at this time,” Silver said. “As I’ve said before, at some point, this league will invariably expand, just not at this moment.”
