Naturi Naughton was the latest guest on The Crew Has It with Michael Rainey Jr. and Gianni Paolo. During the episode Naughton was asked when she started acting etc.

I started singing music first, always like a musician, singer, or artist, when I was five. I started singing in my church. Everybody was like, you know, you should definitely do music, but I was obsessed with Whitney Houston,” said Naturi Naughton.

“So I was like I want to be a singer, actress like bodyguard inspired me so much for me. I was always looking at my career like I could do it all. I never want to be one-dimensional; I want to be a triple threat.

So, Thank God I am, and I guess around five, and then I started doing, you know, talent shows. I start singing the national anthem at the New Jersey Nets game. Somebody heard me, and then they asked me to try out for a girl group called, and the girl group was at the time called Little Women, and then I got a record deal for 3LW with Sony Epic.”

At the age of 2022, Naturi landed a musical called Hairspray for three years, which was a gateway for her to pursue acting.

“That’s where I segued into acting because I always tell people that theater is the best place to learn how to do it all when you do theater, and there’s a live audience, and they’re not going to lie to you. If this s*** is not funny, it isn’t funny,” said Naughton.

“If it’s not good, you don’t get the reaction. If it’s good, you get to a live audience; it is a good telling you how to know if your art is good, and hairspray was my first big gig. I left college. I’m a college dropout.

I left school not to drop out; I went like a junior. I was like a straight student top of my class. I was going to be a lawyer. I went to school for political science. Maybe I should have represented myself as Tasha because Davis MacLean is so shady.”

She added, “That maybe I would have been okay if you know if I had myself. Anyway, I thought about being a lawyer in real life.”
