Earlier this year, Jay Wright elected to retire from coaching citing that he,” didn’t have the edge that I’ve always had, according to ESPN.

“During this season, it started to hit me,” said the former Villanova Men’s Basketball Coach. “I started to look at where my coaching was. Everybody being in place: our staff, the team. We wanted to leave this in a better place than we found it. And we wanted it to be strong and in a great position when we left.

“I started to feel just like I didn’t have the edge that I’ve always had where the edge always came natural to me, so I started evaluating it.”

During his retirement press conference in 1993, Michael Jordan shared, “I’ve always stressed to people that have known me and the media that has followed me that when I lose the sense of motivation and the sense to prove something as a basketball player it’s time for me to move away from the game of basketball.”

Wright won two National Champions and reached four Final Fours during his tenure at Villanova.

With Jay Wright no longer at Villanova, what’s next? According to an NBA source, the NBA front office could be next.

“I think Jay wright could transition into an NBA front office. The Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, or the Philadelphia 76ers,” said the source.

Before the season ended Wright’s former player and current Dallas Maverick guard Jalen Brunson stated Wright taught him how to play the game of basketball.

“I love coach, man. The person that has done a lot for myself and my family. Someone that knew I wasn’t just going there for the amount of time I was there, said Jalen Brunson.

“That it was going to be a lifetime commitment. Coach Wright is one of the best things that has happen to me. He been able to teach me the game of basketball. He’s done a lot for me.”

As an assistant coach with Team USA Basketball, Wright was asked how Mavericks coach Jason Kidd could elevate Brunson’s game.

“I’m a big Rick Carlisle fan, as is Jalen. I know he loved playing for him & felt he’s gotten better each year as a pro under Rick, but both us and I know Jalen looking at the opportunity to play under such a great point guard,” said Wright.

“Obviously playing veteran player great basketball mind, I know he is looking forward to it. So, I think it’s going to be a great learning process and building block in Jalen’s career playing for Rick introduce to the in NBA in that way, and now have the chance to learn from one of the greatest point guard of all-time.”

Jalen Brunson is a free agent this offseason.
