On Saturday night, Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Rolando “Rolly” Romero entered the ring at the Barclays Center in NYC with unbeaten records and dozens of knockouts between them.
Davis was looking to defend his WBA “regular” title; meanwhile, Romero fought for a world title first in his career.
Before the bout, Romero had no hesitation expressing how he felt about Tank. Davis announced that this fight with Romeo would be the last in his contract with Mayweather Promotions.
In an interview with ESPN before the fight, Romero said, ” Floyd did a great job with him. Without Floyd, Gervonta Davis is nothing. He may still have his skillset and all this, you know. But as far as marketing, he has zero personality.”
Also, before the fight, Ryan Garcia bet Errol Spence Jr $20k that Romero would beat Tank, a bet Spence would be happy to take. The two even sealed it with a handshake.
Spence can be heard saying “don’t play with me.”
Garcia replied, “I’ll pay you tomorrow.”
Tank would go on to TKO [Total Knockout] Romeo in the sixth round.
After the fight, Spence posted the video of his and Garcia’s bet on Instagram with the caption that reads, “That shit turned bad quick for ya man’s Ryan Garcia.”
In the comments Errol Spence asked for his money and Ryan Garcia asked for his wire information. And Spence said, ‘My man.”
Also, after the fight, Garcia called out Davis for a fight in December of this year.
“Let me handle business July 16th, (then) I’m going to get Tank,” Garcia Tweeted. “He was screaming the whole fight I’m next, so let it be. December, let’s get it.”
Davis responded with, “There’s no safety on this Glock,” Davis said about facing Garcia next.
