He was the first to achieve this feat as a freshman.

In the single, Drake’s lyrics mention Johnny Manziel, “Draft day, Johnny Manziel.
Five years later, how am I the man still?”

The original album cover features Johnny Manziel and two ladies. After winning the Heisman Trophy Manziel shared during a 2013 appearance on “Rage” with Richie and Greggo on 105.3 The Fan, the two meet each other in Toronto.

“Probably meeting Drake,” Manziel said. “I went to Toronto before I went to Cabo for spring break and got to hang out with him and all of his crew and kind of watch how the music was made. Just got a chance to get to know him a little better and get advice from someone who I really, really like their music.”

Johnny Manziel is also good friends with Drake’s father, Dennis Graham.

“Very good friend,” he told TMZ in a 2018 interview.

On Wednesday evening, Johnny Manziel was on Clubhouse as a guest of Druski. The two spoke in the Behind The Vest With Druski room. Druski asked about the Drake song [Draft Day] during the conversation.

“It came out in 2013, and I was pretty much still in college, getting ready to get drafted and the whole Drake situation. The way he moves and the way his life is. S*** I still have people come up to me and say something about that song,” said Manziel.

“But, for me, I was just trying to hang with the crew. I was just trying to be a white boy and probably smoke a blunt or something with the crew. That’s what I was trying to do, I didn’t know any better.”

While in college had an OVO tattoo on his wrist. Drake was asked during a 2015 interview with ESPN’s First Take how his relationship with Johnny Football started.

“We went from come to the show and from me supporting his games to becoming friends, and I think our friendship will last a very long time.
