Last week, it was reported that Oxon Hill native Maurice “Mo” Creek was stuck in Ukraine as the Russians invaded the country.
“My mother is crying every day, my father is worried sick, my brothers are calling me nonstop every day.”
According to WJLA, the 31-year-old Creek, unfortunately, was unable to leave the area. Mo Creek is a member of MBC MYKOLAIV of the Ukrainian Basketball Super League. As a result, Mo Creek was stranded in Mykolayiv, Ukraine, a city in the southern part of the country.
Mo Creek had been in contact with her officer and family in Maryland. However, he was concerned about the reality of the situation.
The U.S. The embassy in Ukraine is shut down and currently unoccupied, but people are trying to take it to a safe border crossing to leave Ukraine.
The Maryland native stated that he wanted to escape before the war began, but the team did not pay him, and he could not find a trip abroad.
“I’m terrified, I’m terrified,” Creek said. “I’m not just that because I’m in it, I’m saying it because it’s real. I’m not gonna lie, I’m terrified right now. It’s a terrible time, so I can use all the comfort and need all the love and support I can get.”

“Hi, my name is Bj Dupree my nephew is a U.S. professional basketball player stuck in the Ukraine in the middle of this war.. we need to get him to the closest boarder to get him home to America.. Please help if you can help in any way we would greatly appreciate it.”
On Monday evening, Chris Kubecka gave a public announcement stating that “Mo Creek, just called, sounded like he was in a car because he’s in a car on the way to the border leaving Ukraine! Mikhail arranged a driver by some miracle. If I had any more tears left, I’d be crying with joy right now. A rare glimmer of hope during a war.” And that he is headed to Romania.
Mo Creek would quote tweet Kubecka writing, “GLORY TO GOD.”
We are glad that Mo Creek could get out safely, and his family and friends can breathe a sigh of relief.
