Powers’ Courtney Kemp Reveals Who The Showrunner Is For Power Book II: Season 3

New York Times

Earlier this year, Michael Rainey Jr. shared on Instagram Live that Starz has renewed Power Book II Ghost for season three during a question and answer session.

Rainey shared, “N*** so did we, last year and we are already renewed for season 3. So, what do you want me to do with that information. That is not useful. As soon as we are done with [season 2] two more months of break and we back filming season three, while y’all watching season 2.”

“So, they can get renewed, but we are going to get renewed as well. Come on baby!”

On Tuesday evening, Power Universe Creator Courtney Kemp jumped on Instagram Live for her weekly recap of the latest episode of Power Book II Ghost and shared who will be taking over for her as the showrunner for Power Book II Ghost season three.

“I’m still involved with ‘The Power Universe’, but I have now moved to Netflix and that is where I going to be actually writing,” said Kemp.

“Brett Mahoney has actually taken over as the showrunner of Ghost for season three, but I was the showrunner of season two.”

Earlier this month, Kemp dedicated season two to her brother, who recently passed away.

“He was Power, Ghost, and [Power Book III:] Raising Kanan’s biggest fan,” she said. “His biggest dream was to be in the writers’ room of influence because the world of politics was the world that was most important to him.”

She added, “He was the most enthusiastic supportive human and got behind everything I did, even in my darkest times of doubt. He was always there to lift me up, make me laugh and remind me that I should be proud of myself for creating this world.”

“I dedicate this [Seasons One and Two of Power Book II: Ghost] to my brother. I love you, may I learn to believe in myself as much as you did.”

Speaking of believing in herself, she elected to challenge herself with new and innovative projects reaching a deal with the streaming platform Netflix.

Back in August, it was announced that Kemp signed a deal with Netflix worth eight figures, according to Deadline.com’s Dominic Patten.

“I am incredibly excited to join the Netflix family, and to continue to develop the kind of entertainment that End of Episode is known for– diverse, multilingual, watercooler, social-media fueled series that pack a serious punch,” Kemp said. “I am looking forward to working with Bela and her team, who really appreciate the voice and perspective that we bring to the table.”

Netflix’s Head of Global TV, Bela Bajaria, really enjoys what Kemp brings to the streaming platform.

“Courtney is the real deal — a creative force and world-builder who makes great shows,” Bajaria said. “I really admire her clarity of vision and voice, and she has a great sense for what audiences want. Courtney has accomplished something really rare and extraordinary in television and we are thrilled to welcome her to Netflix.”
