Kevin Durant Is A Quiet Assassin, Says Dirk Nowitzki

Dallas Morning News

Earlier this week, the NBA unveiled its 75 greatest players list, and due to a tie, the NBA added another player making it 76 players.

Dallas Mavericks’ future Hall of Famer, Dirk Nowitzki, was named to that list. On Friday morning, he was on NBA Spaces with Stephanie. Marc J Spears, and Shaun Powell.

During this chat, they discussed numerous topics, including Kevin Durant being one of Dirk’s favorite players in the league. He is also one of the current players that made the top 75 list.

“That one for me was a no-brainer. I mean, you don’t see a 7’2 two guard with deep range and absolutely no holes in his offensive game. He can post and can shoot over anybody and can run the pick and roll. I mean, on defense, he is so long, and he is active. So, to me, he is one of the best scorers, if not the best scorer this league has ever seen. There’s nothing that he can’t do,” said Nowitzki.

“He is so long that he can get a shot off at any time. So, I’m a huge Kevin fan, and I met him a couple of times off the floor, and he is super cool and relaxed. He is a super hard worker and always tries to get better. So, that was a no-brainer for me.”

Marc J Spears asked Dirk if Durant took some of his routine in the pregame workout.

“So, I played with a guy named Adam Harrington, who you guys have probably seen around. Adam and I used to play in Dallas a long time ago, and he used to come to Germany to practice with Holger Geschwindner and me. So, Adam really liked those exercises, and he now became an individual coach himself. I think he worked with Kevin over the years and he really liked that routine of adding difficult shots to the routine.”

Dirk was asked about any stories from his matchups with Durant.

“We competed obviously against each other for a long time. He is really quiet, and he doesn’t talk a lot, but sometimes I tried to get him going. I would share a couple of words with him every now and then in big playoff games situations. However, like I said he is a quiet assassin. He is so good and goes about his business and he does not do a lot of chirping,” Nowitzki said.

Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets rallied to beat the Philadelphia 76ers 114-109, after trailing most of the game on Friday night.
