We are four days away from the debut of Power Book III: Raising Kanan. Actor, London Brown will be playing Marvin Thomas. Thomas is the uncle to 50 Cent’s character in the original Power Kanan.

“Marvin Thomas is the oldest of the siblings, and I have a daughter named Jukebox [Hailey Kilgore], a sister named Raquel Thomas [Patina Miller], who is the leader of our family operation. I also have a brother Lou-Lou, who is played by Malcolm M. Mays. Then of course there is Kanan [Mekai Curtis] I’m Kanan’s uncle,” said Brown.

“So, my character basically introduces Kanan into this lifestyle that Power fans know him for. And the fact that my sister is in charge because I was irresponsible with it when I was in the position. So, that creates a little beef between us and a bit of a power struggle. So, because she tends to delegate to my brother [Lou-Lou], which causes a little bit of animosity between us. In the relationship with my daughter [Juke Box], we don’t see eye to eye just on the father-daughter type of thing. So, the only person that my character can use his authoritative energy on is young Kanan. It is not always the best way, but he has Kanan’s back at the end of the day.”

This year, Brown was featured on the Amazon Prime scripted audio drama series ‘Bronzeville,’ Larenz Tate and Laurence Fishbourne produce the series. During a recent interview with Brown, I asked him did he speak with Tate about the Power Universe.

“The thing about it was Larenz, and I did not get the chance to talk about Power, and I haven’t run into him yet. I think that would be an interesting talk because it’s LA, and you run into people all the time. So, the first time I ran into Larenz Tate before I started working with him. I was filming Baller at the time, and I was at a restaurant, and he was there. He and king Batts and we chopped it up for a few minutes took a photo. Fast forward to when I work with him on the film Back to the Goode Life with Kyla Pratt and then the audio series,” said Brown.

“So, I say that we have been dialoguing with each particular project, but we had not done that yet with this one. His storyline is not a part of mine or a part of my universe. So, when I run into him, I will have a couple of questions for him to chop it up. Then when I circle back with you, I can say we talked.”

Power Book III will premiere on Sunday, July 18th on Starz; make sure to check your local listing for airtime.
