NBA Players Are Aliens, And We Are Mere Mortals, Says NBA Insider

Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated by the Phoenix Suns in six games in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Anthony Davis strain groin limited him throughout the series and the Lakers’ chances to advance into the second round. However, Christian Rivas said that despite the injury forcing him to sit out most of game six, he recently shared that re-aggravating the injury only sets him back two weeks.

“I’m gonna talk to my trainer, Ish (Jon Ishop), and see what their plan is,” Davis said. “He’ll probably call me tomorrow and we’ll figure that out, but no I don’t (the exact timeline). They said before, when it first happened, that a 10-14 day injury is usually what it is with a Grade 1, so after tonight where I re-aggravated it, I don’t know if it will be another 14 (days) or whatever, but I’ll talk to him tomorrow and try to see what the plan is.”

It’s been exactly two weeks since last night, and maybe not by coincidence, Davis had some good news to share with the fans who tuned into his Twitch feed, according to Nicole Ganglani.

There have been many discussions this season about Davis’s health, so I decided to ask trainer Mark Edwards. If he had the opportunity to train Anthony Davis this summer, how would he go about it?

“Anthony Davis is so special and so elite because he started off as a point guard and grew eight inches in a year and a half. So, you have to think about what that did to his body, and again you have to think about these long seasons against other elite athletes. Who might be smaller than he and AD has one of those skillsets where he came up playing guard,” said Edwards.

“So, now you have someone that is a natural guard. Now, he is 6’10 or 6’11. Your body at that height is not made to move like that. It’s not. I’m sorry. Sprinting, yes, but the lateral movement and all of the cuts that you do at that position movement-wise is ridiculous. We have to take a step back and look at these guys. They are extraordinary. These NBA players are aliens. When I talk to these guys, I will say normal people who don’t play NBA basketball, and we’re mere mortals.”

He would continue,

“So, how dare we judge, and we have no idea traveling all over playing basketball games. Also, giving a tremendous performance, and when they don’t, we don’t know what they are going through off the court. They have overcome all those things for us; mere mortals would mess up our day, but they must come out and perform and have great body language. According to fans today and it is ridiculous.

So, with AD, I don’t if I would change anything, and he is one of the greatest players we’ve seen in a long time. How do you critique someone like that? He does everything you want in a player. He can shoot threes, is great in the post, handles the ball, makes the right passes, and is great on defense. Like how do you critique that guy.”

Anthony Davis averaged 21.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.1 per game in 36 games this season.
