The defending champs Seattle Storm have the best record [10-2] in the league after defeating the Connecticut Sun 89-66. The Sun is currently without Jonquel Jones, who is playing overseas. She is playing for Bosnia and Herzegovina at EuroBasket.
After the first ten games, she is Jones has averaged 21.6 points and 10.4 rebounds. With Jones out of the lineup for the Sun, two-time finals MVP, Breanna Stewart continued her strong case for MVP. As she recorded 22 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in 28 minutes of play on Sunday afternoon.
After the game, Stewart shared that she was happy to be back in Connecticut and play well in front of family and friends.
“Yeah! Obviously want to play well in front of them and happy to be back in Connecticut, but I know today it was more important to get the win. But, yes, I was motivated to play well and I think anybody is when you go back home,” said Stewart.
Stewart’s teammate, Sue Bird, went 3-4 from behind the arc and finished the game with 13 points. Bird tied her former teammate Katie Smith for second on the All-Time three-point list during the game with 906.
After the game Bird shared her thoughts on the achievement.
“Listen, I live in reality and I think a lot of these records are because I have been playing for so long. I’m proud of it because it speaks towards the longevity and for me, I get to be amongst names that are incredible. I have been lucky enough to play with Katie and against Katie, play with D and against D.
“These are phenomenal shooters, but I don’t necessarily look at it that accomplished something from the three point line. If that makes sense. I think I have been able to play long enough and I hit enough threes that those numbers are going to be high. So, I am proud of it from a longevity aspect of it. Not as some on the court three point achievement.”
