James Harden Hamstring Injury Update

Last night, I released a report that Brooklyn Nets guard James Harden. could be out for four weeks or more after re-injuring his right hamstring for the third time in 2 and a half mouth, according to Dr. Randy Chan, PT, DPT.

“Just looking at the mechanism of injury and his facial expressions, I’m guessing it’s a Grade 1 right hamstring strain, Grade 2 at the most. Keep in mind that this opinion is based on no medical data like MRI results or medical history.

“I would guess James Harden will be out for 4+ weeks, taking into consideration this is the 3rd time he strained the same right hamstring in less than 2.5 months. He might try to push through the pain, but it will dramatically increase the chance of a more severe tear to the same hamstring.”

Shams Charania of The Athletic reported earlier today, that Harden will miss game two of the Bucks and Nets series with right hamstring tightness.

After hearing that it was tightness in the hamstring and not a strain, Dr. Chan said Harden could be back sooner than three weeks, but he was cautious that it could turn into a strain or a tear. However, if the Nets control the series, we might still not see him again this series.

“Right hamstring tightness is better than a strain. I said earlier I didn’t think it was a Grade 2. He’ll come back sooner than 3 weeks, but need to be very cautious. It can turn into a strain/tear at any moment. If #Nets stay in control of series, Harden shouldn’t play this series,” said Chan.

The Nets went on to beat the Bucks 115-107. Game two will be on Monday at 7:30 pm EST.
