ESPN’s Rachel Nichols Has Strong Message For Boston Celtics Fans

On Thursday, the Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge was a guest on the “Toucher & Rich.”

During his appearance, he shared that he had no intentions of going anywhere.

“I have thought that way before, but that’s not going on right now,” Ainge said Thursday. “I mean, I have a really good staff of people,” he said. “With Mike Zarren, and my son Austin, and Dave Lewin, and Remy Cofield, those guys have been doing a lot more over the last couple of years. I have been delegating a lot. Those guys are very, very capable.”

Ex-Celtics center Ryan Hollins was asked how long did Ainge have before he is in the hot seat.

“I think Danny will be fine because you have to think, he is the guy that made the decision not to take Markelle Fultz. He opted to draft Jayson Tatum and still got another pick, and that’s still a team that Danny Ainge has loaded up. He just has not pulled the trigger, but he could have been in the mix for Anthony Davis or James Harden trade,” Hollins.

“They still have the assets to make one of those moves. I just think the question between him and Brad Stevenson is who is that guy that puts over the edge. Also, what are we willing to give up for it.”

On Friday, ESPN’s Rachel Nichols was on Instagram Live with the Washington Post and was asked, what can be done to fix the Celtics.

“I don’t know if some of the issues that they had this season are going to be fixed before this weekend’s game against Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden. I’m not sure you are going to get there, but I hear you. Part of it and this is what I love about Boston Fans, the amount of passion that Boston fans wanting to be in the top-elite group every year. And Frankly, it has been an incredible ten to 15 years in Boston sports,” says Nichols.

“It’s crazy to me that my friends growing up, who are Boston sports fans, they have never seen the Red Sox win a lot of being a Boston sports fan has been woe is me. Now, you have 15 year olds that only know Super Bowls, World Series, and NBA great experiences.”

The Boston Celtics have reached the Eastern Conference Finals three-times in the last four years. This season with them being a lower seed is a wake up call for the fronts to make some changes.

“Maybe it’s a soft wake up call for Danny Ainge and the front office has to address what is going on, and to be realistic. I’m here to tell Celtics fans take heart, you are not going to be in the final four every year,” Nichols said.

The Celtics take on the Nets on Saturday at 8 PM EST on ESPN.
