During All-Star weekend in 2010, LeBron James made headlines when he shared with Cheryl Miller that he might enter his name into the 2011 dunk contest.

However, he ultimately decided not to participate. In 2012, he shared with Fox Sports Florida (via Cleveland.com) while with the Miami Heat that time had gone by for him to take the central stage in the previously starred competition.

“It’s over with. I’m getting too old for that,” James said. “There were times when I wanted to do it. But I came into All-Star Weekend a few times, banged up and I didn’t want to risk further injury.”

“When I first came into the league, I expected that I would do it,” according to Tim Daniels of Bleacher Report. “I did. I did for sure. But it just never happened. I don’t know why. There was times when I wanted to do it and didn’t do it and there was times when I just didn’t really care about it too much. But it definitely would have been pretty cool to do.”

In 2018, Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes reported that there were numerous years, that James really considered participating.

“LeBron James said there were multiple years he seriously considered entering Slam Dunk Contest but says minor injuries occurred. The 05-06 season was a year he intended to compete in,” said Haynes.

Haynes reported that James didn’t participate in 05-06 due to injury; an associate of James’ by the name of Rob Mc shared that it had more to do with James’ brand.

On Wednesday afternoon, Rob Mc was on the Club House app in the Walklikeus room and was asked why James never participated in the slam dunk contest.

“It did not line up with his brand at the time. Hopefully, that you understand that there was different requirements of stars in different eras,” said Rob MC.

“After 2000, the dunk contest went down a little bit when some of the top stars stop participating. And it lost some of its flare, and at t犀利士 he end of the day that man makes his own decisions.”

Mc was asked a follow up question of when does LeBron’s competitive nature over rule his protecting his brand?

“You can’t ever argue LeBron James’ competitive spirit at the end of the day; this man came back from a 3-1 deficit against one of the best teams in NBA history. So, let’s not forget that, and if you are trying to draw a line between his competitive spirit in his decision in a dunk contest… That’s a big jump because there are so many other things that come into it,” said MC.

Rob tried to point out that there was other great players that did not participate in the contest as well.

“There has been so many other great players that did not participate in the dunk contest, now were they on LeBron’s star level or his ability maybe not. It may be your opinion and how you view it.

James did not enter the dunk contest, but has gone on and won four NBA championships in ten finals appearances.
