Last week Heavy’s Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson reported that Lakers center Dwight Howard was reported to the NBA tip line or as players on the bubble refer to it as the snitch line. For not wear a mask while out of his room, which is a bubble violation.
This past Sunday, Howard was on Instagram Live answering fans’ questions as he was doing his laundry. One fan decided to ask Howard where was his mask, and the former three-time Defensive Player of the Year replied “If I’m alone, I don’t need to wear a mask. It’s just like riding around in your car, ” according to Robinson.
Then proceeded to pull out several masks and shared with his audience that he planned on selling his NBA mask on eBay and maybe Amazon.
However, Baller Alert writer Raquel Harris, CBS Sports reporter Chris Bengel, and Dani Mohr of the New York Post wrote pieces stating that Howard was resisting the masks Procol in the bubble and ran with his comments on vaccinations.
On Tuesday afternoon, Howard took to Instagram Live to let his audience know that he has been following the rules and isn’t wearing his mask while he is in his room. He also made it clear, that he wasn’t going to let the narrative detour from why they are there in the first place.
“I wear my mask when I am supposed to, I do exactly what I am supposed to, when I have to. Now, I am not going to allow them to come up with different stories about me. So, Baller Alert Raquel Harris, don’t do that. You never even had a conversation with me, and you are trying to do this. We got to stop with the negativity y’all. We have to stop trying to put people out there like that all this stuff going on,” said Howard.
“Let’s not forget what the real issue is. Let’s not forget what is really going on around here. Let’s not forget the real reason everyone is saying Black Lives Matter and why everyone is saying we need to come together. We are not going to speak negativity on anyone and I’m not going to get into details about how I feel about vaccines or anything like that right now. “
“I’m in my room and I don’t need to wear a mask in my room, if I am outside by myself, we don’t have to wear a mask. So, no we are not about to change this narrative about what is going on in the world, Howard shared. “I came down here on a mission with the rest of my team and the rest of my brothers in the NBA, We are one on a mission and we are going to unify and the best team is going to win the championship this year.”
Howard stated that we are not going to turn this into a mask issue when Breonna Taylor’s family hasn’t received justice yet.
“We aren’t going to make this a mask issue the real issue is Breonna Taylor and why haven’t people been arrested yet? Why are they not being talked about? We are not going to make this a back and forth.”
The Los Angeles Lakers are scheduled to scrimmage the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday on NBA TV 7 PM EST.
