Hall of Famer Steve Nash Sounds Off-On Carmelo Anthony

It has been almost a year since Carmelo Anthony has played a game in the NBA. The Houston Rockets decided to trade him after just ten games into the season. Last month, Melo sat down with Stephen A. Smith on First Take to tell his side of the story and to clear his name. Melo shared with Smith that Rockets general manager Daryl Morey the day before the team played the San Antonio Spurs, told him that his services were no longer need.

“He came in and basically said, ‘Look, your services are no longer needed,’” Anthony told ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith on First Take of his conversation with Morey. “I was like, ‘What? Hold up. What the hell are you talking about? … You telling me I can’t make a nine-, 10-man rotation on this team?’”

Since Melo interview with Smith, many current and former NBA players have shared their thoughts on Carmelo not being on an NBA roster including Hall of Famer Steve Nash.

“Melo is a Hall of Famer one of the truly great scorers the league’s had. He still got something to offer and I hope he lands on a team, Nash told Fanatics View.

An NBA roster that could use Melo’s talents in the last five minutes of the game is the Los Angeles Lakers. Earlier this year, former three-time All-Star Gilbert Arenas shared with me that the Lakers would be the perfect fit for Carmelo Anthony.

Go to the Lakers where you might come off the bench, but you are going to be the first option in the fourth quarter because that is what they are going to need from Melo. They need a 6’9 guy that can open up the floor, play your iso basketball, and that helps the rest of the Lakers. LeBron passes to everyone else, and you play iso basketball it all works.

He goes to Houston and after ten games he is gone. Melo needs to be in a position where the last five minutes of the game he is the go-to guy. If you are not the go-to guy what are you on the court for because don’t have any other skill to be used. You are a fourth-quarter last five-minute iso guy that is your skill, said Arenas.

Last month, former Rocket Royce White was asked if he felt that Carmelo was being blacked balled by the NBA.

“He is one of the realists in it. He is one of those that isn’t like me, he doesn’t talk brash and straight forward like that, but has those morals and principals, and he has given the game for them not to allow him to play, for them to culturally a decision or an agreement that he is not good enough anymore.

All of us here that played the game at the highest level know how good Melo is and we know that there is no way, that the Lakers would go out and sign Jared Dudley and not sign Carmelo Anthony and another question is why a guy like Lebron is walking around like is the face and the voice of the players.”

How is he letting his Banana Boat Brother hang out there in the wings, and they go and sign Jared Dudley and not Carmelo?  If anybody watching, this thinks Jared Dudley can hold Carmelo’s jockey strap, I’ll slap them.  That’s how I’m coming though!

White wasn’t the only one that thinks Melo is being blackballed both former Knick Ethan Thomas and former Fab Five member Jalen Rose have spoken on the matter.

Back in July, Thomas spoke with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, who is the host of the Scoop B Radio podcast about his Op-Ed article with Syracuse.com, “It’s almost as if Carmelo has been blackballed.”

” It was a spin move. You know what I mean. So, kind of like Kaepernick said this is why I am taking a knee and everyone said it was another reason. When Carmelo Anthony said does he still fell he can contribute as a starter? He said yeah I have been a starter all my life, no player that I have ever known is going to say Nah I don’t got it no more. Every player, who has ever played thinks they can play more minutes. So, it was kind of blown out of proportion obviously, since he came off the bench in Houston.”

As for Jalen Rose, he was on “Get Up” on ESPN last month and said that yes Melo was being blacked balled

“Yes I do (think he’s getting blackballed) because there are 450 people who get paid to play this sport this year. I would say even if you didn’t like his game because it’s mid-range based and felt like he didn’t fit, he could still have a roster spot between 11 and 15,” Rose said on ESPN’s Get Up.

“Blackballed comes from the fact that there are 450 jobs, there are 30 NBA teams, he deserves to be on a roster. He should have a job, but he doesn’t.”
