Back in April before the end of the Dallas Mavericks regular-season, I released a report that Mavericks assistant coach God Shammgod would participate in The Big 3 this summer. Per Shammgod, he has discussed with Ice Cube the possibility of playing in the Big 3 this year in Dallas.
“I have talked to [Ice] Cube and told him I want to play when The Big 3 comes to Dallas this summer,” Shammgod told me.
Earlier today, during a conference call, I spoke with Ice Cube about Shammgod’s comments at the end of the Mavericks season.
“As far as Shammgod playing, can’t nobody just jump in the league. It is a situation where, if you are not in the draft pool, you can’t just jump in,” said Cube.
The Big 3 have a lot of newcomers this year such as, Al Jefferson, Gilbert Arenas, Jason Terry, Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Mario Chalmers, Brandon Rush, and Shannon Brown.
After three weeks of Big 3 basketball, every team is chasing the Triplets, led by their Hall of Fame coach Lisa Leslie, captain, former Brooklyn Nets guard Joe Johnson, and co-captain, Al Jefferson. The Triplets next opponents will be last year’s champions Power, led by Hall of Fame coach Nancy Liberman, captain Corey Maggette, co-captain Cuttino Mobley, and co-captain Glen Davis.
As for Shammgod, he played 20 games with the Washington Wizards during the 1997-1998 season. He is also, the architect of the one-handed crossover entitled “The Shammgod.” Maybe we will see Shammgod join the draft pool next season.
