Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson will miss some significant time next season due to injuries and with both out next season it will give former two-time MVP Stephen Curry an opportunity to increase his usage and production next season. The increase of Curry’s production could possibly earn him his third MVP award next season. According to ESPN’s Max Kellerman when Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson are not on the floor Steph Curry averages 17shots game, but without those two on the floor, he averages 30 shots a game. The crazy thing about Step, he averaged 20 shots and 30 points a game he was the unanimous MVP.

“If he averages anywhere 30 shots a game, this is what is insane about him, as his usage rate goes up, his percentage doesn’t change. There are so few players throughout history like that, you can say that about James Harden too, but Harden is not as efficient, but Steph without Klay and KD, he will still shoot 44 percent from three and 92 percent from the free-throw line.“

“The last time I look deep into the numbers was when I was making the case on Countdown, that Steph, not Harden should be the MVP at that point. Steph is the engine that makes that team [Golden State Warriors] go. He still has his pick and roll partner they will have someone else that can shot the three.. Stephen is going to average listen to me right now, well over 30 points, yet the ball won’t stick with him. He is an underrated rebounder… He is going to put up cartoon numbers on a winning team, playoff team, he is going to be the MVP.“

With both Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson both out with a torn right Achilles and ACL injuries respectively. Thompson injured his ACL on a two-hand dunk attempted in which he was fouled on the play by Toronto Raptors guard Danny Green. After the dunk attempt, Thompson landed awkwardly on his left leg and tearing his ACL.

Green was later interviewed by Canadian media on June 16, the day prior to Raptors Championship parade, and according to Green, he wasn’t aware the full extent of Thompson injury at the moment.

“I thought it was pretty clean. They called a foul,” Green said. “I wasn’t sure what happened and I just saw him grab his knee. You never know serious it is with him because he just walks through and plays through anything. The guy came back on the court like it was nothing with a torn ACL and shot his free throws.”

“[Thompson’s] like, ‘I know you didn’t do it purpose,’” Green said.

“I saw [Draymond] in the hallway after and he said it’s an ACL and I was like ‘Ahhh, sh–.’ It’s gonna be a long summer for not just him but their team,” Green said. “You never want to see those guys go down that way. They’re special players and you don’t want to see their careers changed, or be hindered or be over because of certain types of plays or injuries — especially the ones you’re involved in.”

Kevin Durant would tear his Achilles tendon after playing just under 12 minutes in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. The injury occurred a month after Durant sustaining a strained right calf. KD is slated to be out of action anywhere from 9 months to a year rehabbing his Achilles injury.
