Bobby Jackson On Melo ‘It’s Hard To Pick Up A Guy Who Hasn’t Played All Season’

Carmelo Anthony has not played another game this season since he suited up for the Rockets against his former team the Oklahoma City Thunder on November 8, 2018.  In his final game this season he was only able to mustard up two points and five rebounds.

In the off-season, the10-time All-Star signed a one year deal with the Houston Rockets after being traded to the Atlanta Hawks from Oklahoma.  The Hawks would waive Melo and after he cleared waivers, he signed with the Rockets.

So, what is next for the future Hall of Famer?

Well, TNT’s Charles Barkley was recently interviewed by Heavy’s Brandon Robinson and Barkley share with him ‘“You don’t get better sitting out of basketball.’ I can also be noted that Barkley didn’t Melo would be playing in the playoff this year either.

“No, he’s not going to play in the [NBA] Playoffs, he’s done for the year.” So, that only leaves next season, “That’s going to be interesting it might be over,” said Barkley.

Say it ain’t so!

“I think Carmelo’s game still adapts to today’s game, it just has to be the right situation,” Kings Assistant Coach Bobby Jackson told me. With Carmelo situation being that he is 15 or 16 seasons in will he be willing to take a back seat by coming off the bench and being a limited role player in that offense. I think that is the biggest question with Carmelo,” said Jackson.

Melo could be 犀利士
signed by a playoff team like the Boston Celtics or the Golden State Warriors both teams second units had trouble this season scoring the ball. The Globe’s Gary Washburn first mentioned this idea in early March and then Blue Man Hoop‘s Nathan Beighle shared why the Warriors should consider adding the three-time Gold Medalist.

“It’s not a hidden secret. The Golden State Warriors have one of the league’s worst benches. This is partially due to the fact that they’ve spent such a vast majority of their cap space on their starters that they didn’t save money to improve their bench. There is a player just looking for a chance to compete, would likely the take the minimum, and i樂威壯
s one of the league’s all-time best scorers. That player is Carmelo Anthony,” said Blue Man Hoop.

“At this point in the season, it is just hard to pick up a guy that hasn’t played basketball all season. What is he really going to bring to the table? Is really going to help you win because he hasn’t played all year. I’m against bringing a guy in that hasn’t played all year. That is just me, I don’t care who it is. You need to be on a roster, so you can get the minutes and practice time instead of sitting at home. I wouldn’t do it unless I was in dire of that person’s service, but I would start at the G-League first before signing someone that is just at home,” said Jackson.

“It is kind of hard to say I am shocked or not [that Melo is unsigned.] In all fairness, he has had a great career I love Carmelo’s game and he was a true professional everywhere he went. I have never heard anyone say anything bad about him, but his still doesn’t fit some of the teams and they feel they have enough or he doesn’t bring any value them. That is probably why he is not picked up, but at the same time, I don’t want to see him on another team just me being selfish. I feel like he ’s had an H*** of a career run off into the sunset, be a father, and enjoy your family,“ Marion told me.

There are still players that feel Melo should be on an NBA roster.

“Melo is a Hall of Famer, and I think it is funny how fickle today’s world with social media and everything has become what have you done for me lately. I don’t if they remember how good of a player he was and still is. Sometimes it’s the situation; it’s sucks to see as a basketball player to see people act he is something he is not, said Griffin.

“I have a feeling Melo will turn it around.”

“I think the analytics is what did that to him. He is a bucket that is what he is, and I understand the situation went a certain way, but he still is Melo.  He still has a lot in his tank, and he can still play this game. I think situations have gone his way, but the slander, talk is crazy a lot of the time,“ said Miles.

“Melo is a scoring machine,” Whiteside told me.

“ Yeah definitely, I mean this is a guy who is probably to this today, one of the hardest guys to guard.  In isolation type of situations and he is a legend.  He is one of my favorite players to ever play and it is tough to see him go through what he is going through in the media.  I think he can definitely help a team, especially when playoff time comes when things start to stagnate. He is a veteran, so I hope he lands on his feet,“  Hood told me.

“Yes, one of the All-time greatest scorers, and Hall of Fame player.  So, it’s definitely crazy not to see him out there, but I’m confident he will be back out there,” DeRozan told me.

“Absolutely! Melo’s game translates, and he is another guy I respect and admired for a really long time.  The way he approaches the game and I think it is always tough to see these savvy veterans get a bad name with a 24-hour news cycle. But Melo can still bring a hell of a lot to a team, and if you get him on the right team, there is going to be a lot of firepower for those guys, Love told me.“

Melo recently spoke with Taryn Finley of the Huffington Post and shared with her that retirement is coming sooner than later:

“I’m sure [retirement is] coming soon. I’d be sitting lying to you if I said it’s not coming soon. I think I want it to come soon. I don’t think I want to do this forever, but because you love it so much, it’s hard to give it up. At the end of the day, at anything you do, when it’s your time to go, it’s your time to go. But as long as you feel good with that.”
