Stevie Kerr On DeMarcus Cousins Leadership “I Think He Has Brought A lot Of Humor”

A video of DeMarcus Cousins dunking on 2-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant went viral yesterday (12-21-18). The two multi-time NBA All-Stars seem to be playing a game of one on one and from the video below, Cousins was getting the best of Durant at the Warriors practice facility.

Cousins is currently recovering from a rapture Achilles; he suffered against the Houston Rockets last season as a member of the New Orleans Pelicans.  He has not had any set back in his recovery process according to Warriors’ head trainer, Rick Celebrini.

“no setbacks in the recovery process.”

Earlier this season DeMarcus Cousins was a guest on the Scoop B Radio podcast with host Brandon “Scoop B”  Robinson. During the interview, Cousins described his new team the Warriors is a team full of high IQs.

“It’s a team full of high IQs,” DeMarcus Cousins told Robinson.

He would continue:

“I believe everyone on our team has a very high IQ when it comes to the game of basketball,” he said. “All of us know how to play the game of basketball.”

During his eight seasons in the league, Cousins has never participated in a playoff series. The closest he has been when the Pelicans swept the Portland Trailblazer this past season, but he was sidelined with his Achilles injury.

Earlier this season the Warriors were in town to face the Dallas Mavericks, and during a pregame news conference with Warriors’ coach Steve Kerr, I ask him about how Cousins was along in his recovery process.

“He is doing very well. The rehab is going really well, and he is playing every day in a lot of 2 on 2 and three on three drills. He his more involved in our practice sessions, our five on 0, and getting more acclimated with offensive sets. So, he is coming along he is a big man, and has to really work on his conditioning, which is what he is doing right now,” Kerr told me.

Kerr would continue by discussing the type of leadership Cousins brings to the Warriors.

“I think he has brought a lot of humor, which is a form of leadership. The guys love being around him and he has a great way about him.  He is very funny and he has gotten close with Damian Jones giving him a lot of counsel during games and between. He is just dying to get on the floor we won’t truly feel his impact until he is out there playing, but he is doing a great job staying involved and engaged with the group.”
