It’s Nice To See Derrick Rose Back In The Swing Of Things, Says Kevin Durant

If there were an award in the NBA for comeback player of the year, Derrick Rose would be an excellent candidate for that reward. Derrick Rose is averaging 23.1 points, 5.7 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 0.8 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game this season for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In the offseason, Rose signed a one year deal worth $2.1 million according to Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania. Charania has since then moved on The Athletic. With the numbers, Rose has been producing this season has sparked a lot of attention throughout the league. Having a lot of people comparing this season to the 2010-2011 season, when he captured the MVP award. Making him the youngest ever to achieve this feat.

Earlier this season during an interview with NBA TV’s Dennis Scott, Derrick Rose stated with his role of coming off the bench his goal is to win the sixth man of the year. Rose has been a bright spot for the Timberwolves all season even when there was some uncertain of where his former teammate Jimmy Butler was going to end up. After the back and forth with Andrew Wiggins on social media during the offseason. He was eventually, sent to the 76ers in exchange for Robert Covington and Dario Saric, guard Jerryd Bayless, and a 2022 second-round pick.

As for Derrick Rose, he has had some rememberable games already there was is 50 point game against the Utah Jazz, where he came up with a big-time block in the corner to seal the victory for the Timberwolves. His 31 point performance against the Los Angeles Lakers back in November at the Staple Center.

Rose has also been receiving significant support from the NBA community for example, before the season during an interview with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson “The Big Ticket” Kevin Garnett stated that he would start Derrick Rose.

“Yeah, I would,” Garnett told Robinson. He would continue “It’s D-Rose,” he said.

“You know, you get older, but the knowledge doesn’t go anywhere. He’s more crafty now than ever in the pick-and-roll.  He’s able to get shots for guys, and he’s able to knock shots down, so yeah, I would.”

Paul Pierce also stated that he thought Rose should also be a starter on the Jump earlier this season.

“Derrick Rose, where’s he’s at right now, is more than a serviceable player,” Pierce said. “To me, he’s still a starter in this league. He can still make shots. He still has a good IQ. He’s a scoring point guard. This is what the NBA is today.”

Paul Pierce thinks Derrick Rose is a starter.

After Rose dropped 50 on the Jazz, the NBA community reacted via Twitter and in their post game interviews.

LeBron James reacts to Derrick Rose dropping 50

A couple of days later I had to speak with Mavericks sophomore point guard Dennis Smith Jr., who received an autograph jersey from Rose in the mail.

“I was watching the game, and I saw the stats… I saw he had 13 in the first quarter and I’m yelling Rose is balling my boy is balling. The next time I had the opportunity look at the state line it said 27 points with seven minutes left in the third I was thinking to myself he’s back. For him to go out and have 50, you could see the emotion pouring out he has put in some much work… So many critics doubted him, but never counted himself out and stayed resilient, so you have to salute him,” Smith told me.

Smith’s teammate Harrison Barnes shared his thoughts on Derrick Rose season after a shoot-around practice at the Mavericks practice facility.

“I think everything that D Rose has battled on the court to get back healthy. To see to get back to that is just a testament to his hard work really. Just to be able to get back to looking like himself and back to the explosion. Being able to have 50 points and get a win that is huge. I think a lot of people in the world are really happy for him.,” Harrison told me.

Bulls Guard Derrick Rose and Wizards Guard John Wall

John Wall also shared with me his thoughts on Rose after the Wizards fell to the Mavericks earlier this season in Dallas.

“I’m happy for him he has overcome so much over the last couple of seasons to get himself back on the court. He is back, and you must remember he was the Youngest MVP at the time. Beating out LeBron James for the Award. The Bulls were the number one seed back in 2011, Wall told me.”

Wall added:

So, I was glad to see him drop 50 the other night. You don’t lose that competitive nature.

Derrick Rose and Paul George

Paul George spoke recently about Derrick Rose and his success thus far this season.

“I’m just happy for D Rose and everything he has been through Just seeing good things happen for him,” said George.

Warrior’s coach Steve Kerr as weighed in on Rose season thus far coming back from injury.

It is great to see him moving so well and playing with so much confidence. It is so much fun watching him get 50 and get emotional afterwards knowing everything he has been through. I think everyone in this league is rooting for Derrick. We all want him to do well and it is good to see him back playing a very high level.

2-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant also weighed in on Derrick’s season as well.

“D Rose is playing great basketball I expected this out of him if he is healthy… His body is responding to his game and everything he has been through on the court. Responding to playing back to backs, and to playing playoff games. So, it is good to see him back in the swing of things,” Kevin Durant told me.
