A couple of weeks ago I reported that former Dallas Maverick Jason Terry was on the Mavs Fanatic podcast and shared that future Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki put a hole in the visiting locker room at Oracle Area that is still there today. Following the Mavericks lost to the Golden State Warriors in six games. You have to remember the Mavericks were the number one seed coming off a Finals appearance the year before against the Miami Heat.
The Golden State Warriors were a scrappy and tough gritty team that featured Baron Davis, Matt Barnes, Al Harrington and Stephen Jackson. They were able to frustrate the future Hall of Famer in Nowitzki and hold the league MVP at the time to only 16.4 points in that series after averaging 24.6 points during the regulars season.
I recently spoke with Stephen Jackson about Terry’s comments, and he confirmed that Dirk put a hole at Oracle Arena. Jackson took it a step further and shared the location of the damage. According to Jackson “The chair was thrown through the ceiling of the visitors’ locker room.
The following season the Mavericks made it back to the Conference Semi-Finals but would fall to the Denver Nuggets 1-4 in the only time Carmelo Anthony made it out the first round of the playoffs.
