It is that time of year again in the world of tennis that right it’s US Open time. Day 1 matches consisted of top seeded Leonardo Mayer advances in straights set over Maxime Janvier in the men’s bracket. As for the top seeded Su-Wei Hsieh was able to outlast her 18-year-old challenger Kelly Chen,3-6, 6-2, 7-6. Chen was able to reach the final of the USTA Girls’ 18 Nationals to earn a spot to qualify for the US Open.
Some other top seeds to advance was number 2 ranked on the men’s side Denis Shapovalov in two close matches ending 6-3, 6-4 winner over Denis, Kudla. Fourth ranked Ukraine’s Sergiy Stakhovsky after drop three games to Alexy Vatutin of Russia. On the women’s side the sixth seeded Kateryna Bondarenko, need a little over an hour to finish off Silvia Soler-Espinosa from Spain. Former number two and the runner at the 2010 US Open Vera Zvonareva from Russia. Has been away from the game of tennis for the past two years to get married and start her family.

On the women’s side number 31 ranked Bernarda Pera beat China’s Jing-Jing Lu, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 and local New Yorker Jamie Loeb beats Na-Lae Han, 6-4, 6-2.
