Kenny G On Working With Today’s Generation Of Artists, “Artists Don’t Have To Be Famous, But Talented”

Six years ago, I had the opportunity to interview Kenny G on behalf of The Hype Magazine. During that interview, I asked the legendary saxophonist Kenny G if there were any artists in today’s generation that he would like to work with moving forward.

“Honestly, I would love to work with any musician that wants to create fun music and feeling the music. The artists do not have to be famous, but he or she would need to be talented,” said the Seattle native.

In a 2020 interview with Variety, Kenny G asked about the Valentines’ Day collaboration with Kanye West as he surprised West’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian.

“I am feeling it! I’m flattered that these young guys are calling me to play. The Kanye thing was very easy, just like this one, because it just worked with my vibe. And even though the Postal Service was rock and roll and the Ed Helms thing was bluegrass, I’ve always thought of myself as very open. If you play me something, it could be heavy metal, bluegrass, R&B, super-heavy jazz — I feel like if I can just live with it, I can find the right vibe for it. It’s like a puzzle — it’s their song and I don’t want to be in the way but I also don’t want to be just a background sax player, and at the same time I don’t want to do too much. I love that challenge.”

Last month Kenny G announced his Christmas Tour according to Republican-American.
