On Friday night it was a milestone night for Dallas Wings coach Brian Alger as he coached in his 500 career  WNBA game. Unfortunately for Agler and the Wings, it ended in a 20 point loss at home to the Indiana Fever.  Wings center Theresa Plaisance and rookie point guard Arike Ogunbowale led the way for Dallas with 15 points apiece, but it wasn’t enough to earn the Wings 5th victory of the season.

After the game coach, Agler spoke about his longevity in the WNBA.

“I think having that many games coached just talks about longevity. To have that many games coached, you have to have some success; all the success has to do with quality players. You have to have outstanding players to have success or to have high-level success in this league. So, I have been fortunate to coach some great players and be in some great organizations. So, I feel really fortunate to be a part of this league for an extended period of time,“ said Agler.

He would continue:

“I have been coaching professionally before the WNBA started in ABL. So, I have been at this level for several years, and there are some great people in this league, the front office all the way through the organizations. The association is really growing, which is great for me to see that because I know what it was like in the very beginning.  You guys covering the league, I can remember coming out after games and might be one person here. So, with the social media and the media and you guys being a part of the growth of the league. I hope you guys keep it up because you are all doing a great job and not just here (in Dallas), but around the league. It is just amazing to see the information that is being put out there about the teams, and I hope we can continue to grow that way.“

During his 20 years in the WNBA, Agler has been a part of six different franchises (Dallas Wings, Seattle Storm, Phoenix Mercury, Minnesota Lynx, San Antonio Silverstars, and Los Angeles Sparks).

The Dallas Wings will be traveling to Chicago to take on the Chicago Sky on Sunday at 6 p.m. EST.
