Later tonight the Las Vegas Ace will take on the Chicago Sky at 10:30 p.m EST. The Aces are currently first in the Western Conference with a 15-8 record heading into tonight’s match against the Sky. The Aces had a sluggish start to the season, but since then they have been able to turn it around behind the strong play of reigning Rookie of Year A’ja Wilson, who is averaging 15.4 and shooting 48.2 % from the field per game this season.

Earlier this season, the Las Vegas Ace acquired last season’s runner up for MVP, Liz Cambage in a trade that sent Moriah Jefferson, Isabelle Harrison, and their first and second picks in 2020 to the Dallas Wings.

Cambage is currently averaging 15.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. Both Wilson and Cambage were named All-Stars in last month’s All-Star game in Las Vegas. Even though players play the five position they have been able to complement each other this season instead of hindering each other grow this season.

Wilson shared with me last week how she and Cambage have been able to gel on the court this season.

“We haven’t skipped a beat at all. We are used to playing in each other’s way honest, we are all in other own little space, but now that we are playing with each other we are meshing together and the high-low. When she is up I let her do her thing and when she is down let her do her thing, and it is vice versa.

That is what it is all about and I think we are so used to being that only post and people can double team us… And we kind of get in our own way, but when we see each other we able to relieve pressure and that is what it is all about. So. it is just a joy to play with Liz and being around her off the court,” said Wilson.

When they both been able to play with each other this season because of the two All-Stars have out with injuries. Wilson is currently in a walking boot after suffering a sprained ankle against the Seattle Storm on July 21 and according to Sam Gordon of the Review-Journal.

Per Ace’s head coach Bill Laimbeer, Wilson may be out for “weeks” and would be re-evaluated at a later. Last week Wilson traveled to Dallas, but was still sidelined with her sprain ankle and hasn’t provided an update on when she might return. As for Cambage, she missed the last two games against the Washington Mystics and Wings due to rest. However, Cambage was in the starting lineup for Aces against the Sky.
