Seattle’s Top Track and Field Athlete Norris Frederick to Compete in Grenada Invitational

Long Jumper Norris Frederick has been nearly unstoppable in recent years. As one of the world’s best and most consistent jumpers, Frederick is coming into the season ranked among the top five jumpers in the world. Frederick will compete at this year’s inaugural Grenada Invitational Track and Field Meet on April 8th, 2017. The meet will be held at the National Athletic Stadium in St. George, and feature a number of local and international athletes competing in the first major meet of the 2017 outdoor Track and Field season. The Grenada Invitational is sanctioned by the North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletic Associations (NACAC).

Grenada is the first stop on Frederick’s Goodwill Journey Around the World. This season, Frederick is launching a goodwill initiative and embarking on an incredible journey to circumnavigate the globe as a professional athlete with the aim of helping and supporting children with Deafness and hearing impairments. At each stop, Frederick will be meeting with educators, doctors, and business and global leaders to help raise awareness and resources for children with Deafness and hearing impairments. As part of the Goodwill Initiative, Norris has pledged 100 hours of community service geared towards raising awareness and funds to help support children with Deafness and hearing impairments discover and achieve their dreams.
The money raised will be donated to the Global Foundation For Children With Hearing Loss.

As a child, Frederick struggled with a speech impediment, which inspired him to explore different ways of communicating. Taking it upon himself to learn American Sign Language (ASL), Frederick worked to become near fluent in ASL and has since been advocating for those living with Deafness and hearing impairments. Through his Goodwill Journey Around the World, Frederick aims to inspire kindness and strengthen the bonds that connect people, while also working to inspire these children to achieve their dreams. The funds raised will be used exclusively for the benefit of the selected charity.
